It has been four and a half years since GK defended his title against Anand. Since then the traditional process for determining the 'World Chess Champion' has completely disappeared. A legitimate process for winning the title that GK held no longer exists. The 'Title' itself no longer exists. There is no doubt that GK is still the best player, but that is not the point. GK himself played a significant role in eliminating this process. Those of us who follow and understand chess know that the match with Deep Blue was just an exhibition. GK lost the match but not his Title. However, I believe the Corporate World saw things a little differently. All they saw was the result: "Best Human Player Defeated By Machine". And then to compound the situation, GK accused IBM of cheating. GK still does not realize the damage done by this historic event. The days of the 3 million dollar Title matches are over. There was no where near that kind of money for a match with Shirov and it appears that there is no real money to see a match with Anand. Of course this match, even if it takes place will not be a legitimate 'World Championship Match' since GK hand picked his opponent. The bottom line: Since there is no way for any other player to legitimately earn the right to challenge GK for the possibility to win his 'TITLE' then there can be no 'TITLE'. If he is to be the legitimate 'World Champion' then he must do something to restore the process where any chess player can earn the right over the board to play and defeat him over the board. If this means playing for $50,000 instead of $5,000,000 then so be it. Until this happens the only game in town is the FIDE Knockout. As much I would prefer the traditional method for determining the World Champion this is all we have. If this post is not appropriate for this forum, then I apologize in advance. Rodney Hudlow
