Enrique seems to be right that programs that do not spot the mate threat in this position tend to fall prey to fast finders. I've had enough time to check on several progs -- the successful ones (fast finders) took only a couple of seconds at the most to spot both the threat and the mate: Crafty 17.6 SMP, Fritz 6 (all test versions), Deep Junior 6, Hiarcs 7.32... I haven't set up my Tiger 12, but am sure that it would spot the mate in a split second :) Programs that had a hunch something was wrong with capturing on a2: Genius 6.5, Zarkov 5.1, Wchess 1.2a (none of these saw the coming mate quickly, but assigned a hefty bonus to White after capturing). I was pretty upset to find out that Rebel Century could not at least "intuit" about the coming threat to his King via the check on c8 and the subsequent checking on g5 with a quick mate. Has anyone tried the previous Rebels? Djordje
