RDRAM has much more bandwidth than SDRAM, but PCs don't _need_ more memory bandwidth. They need lower latency. And RDRAM actually has _higher_ latency than SDRAM. It's also several times more expensive. And its clock speed is unnecessarily high, which makes life hard for motherboard designers. Intel was forced to release its i820 motherboard with only two usable memory slots, because of the electrical problems with RDRAM. The reason Intel has been pushing RDRAM so hard is because they were in a legal agreement with Rambus. The agreement expired earlier this month, so Intel is expected to drop this stupid-ass technology like the plague and jump on the DDR SDRAM bandwagon (finally!!). -Tom
