For crafty you do not need the adapter.
Just download crafty from http:\\www.chessbase.com downloads
page and unzip it to your engine file. Then it will see the engine there.
Also go to chessbase then to the downloads page, then click on winboard
engines instructions are there on how to use the adapter.

I quote;
"Copy the file Winboard.eng into your Engines folder.
Rename it to the chess program's original name + ".eng", e.g. Tristram.eng.
Create a folder with the chess program's original name in the Engines folder,
e.g. Engines\Tristram.
Copy the chess program's exe and its auxiliary files into this folder.
Create a file Tristram.init to send the correct command line
(ready-made .init files for all engines available here soon, see GNUchess
example).
Now "Tristram" will show up in your engines list.
