The forfeit was called at a time when the second game could be played, according to mutual agreemnt already reached. The chain of events that led to the forfeit were not clear to me, so I talked to Shay and pieced this together: The first game crashed around 1530 EST. The draw was agreed around 1640 EST. In the interval there was much discussion with Adams via Mig (in New-York) and Carol Jarecki (arbiter in Bermuda). He was offered several options, including annulling this game and playing both tomorrow, declaring this game drawn and playing the second tomorrow, and he agreed to the third possibility: draw and second game today. It was concluded between Aviv Bushinsky, the event organizer (and Shay's brother) and Carol Jarecki that the 2nd game will start in 20 minutes (i.e. about 1700 EST). We don't know if Mig knew of this, but Aviv, not Mig, was the KC official in charge. A few minutes later Mig talked to Shay, and Shay sounded pessimistic. So Mig called Bermuda and promised them if the second game doesn't start in 15 minutes they can claim forfeit. We didn't know about this. A few minutes after 5 pm Aviv called Carol Jarecki to start the second game. In this conversation he learned of the 15 minute deadline given by Mig, and was told we missed it by 7 MINUTES. There was a change of mind during the conversation, in the first a forfeit was demanded for the 1st game (which was just agreed drawn), which was then changed to demand for forfeit for the whole match. (Adams may have missed here a golden opportunity to demand being declared winner of the entire Grand Prix). Amir
