Subject: Needed: a good test position for speed.

I have a new (Quantex) 550MhZ Pentium III computer, 96 Meg. RAM, Win98 2ond
edition. On a comparative timing test of this machine against an old 2nd hand
166MHZ, amdK6-2 , 34MegRAM, Win95 machine on a position (using Junior6a), I
found that the new computer was barely 3 times faster. I had expected
significantly better speed (say 4X) and I had no other programs running (except
for a few icons showing up on the system tray like the anti-virus). Was I wrong
to expect faster than 3X ? I have only a basic built in Intel 2D/3D video card
which should not make a difference (?). Does anyone have a position test and a
result I should expect? Know of some free benchmark download locations? Any
comments to edify me would be most appreciated. Thanks.
