I wanted some day to write my own chess program. I far from that so i went out and bought a book called Learn Visual C++ 6 and 24 hours). I don't know what compiler it has but it came with one. I started out by writing simple programs that the book gave as examples. But i got tired of that and want to start looking at some chess codes. Now just 16 hours ago i had no idea what a code looks like or even how to compile it. I went to the Crafty site because i knew it came with the code. So i loaded it up and started looking at things that were going on with the program. I then purposely generated some errors to see what happens. Then I fixed the errors and continue to change things that wouldn't create errors. Then i recompile it and i got no errors .. but 370 warnings (But the original Crafty had those as well). I changed things just to see how the program will play and to get an idea of what the programmers are doing. Now i would like to Know 1. Can i play this on Chess Servers. 2. Is this what a crafty clone really is. 3. Must it say Crafty when beginning of play (which i have no idea of how to change now. 4. If this isn't legal i will stop it now. 5. Must the source code be availiable. ( I am doing this via Visual Studio) 6. If i stumbbling on to something Dr. Hyatt Gets all the Glory. 7. I am only having fun. Thanks All
