This is a bit of an aside but I don't know if everybody agrees with what you guys said, Windows 2000 being the only choice. I'm reading here an article that sums up some considerations about whether to switch to Windows 2000. Windows 2000 is a lot more expensive, the complete version of Windows 2000 Professional, Dutch version will be around 849 Dfl., the successor of Windows 98 (the article I'm getting my information from calls it "Windows Millennium" but that is only a working name) will only be released at the end of this year, third or fourth quarter and, if it costs about the same as Windows 98 now that would be about 489 Dfl. Even official system requirements are much higher for Windows 2000 and they are already high for Windows 98. The official requirements are rather optimistic. Hardware support for Windows 2000 is clearly more intended for businesses than for consumers. Before installing Windows 2000 it is recommended to take a look at http://www.microsoft.com/hcl to see which hardware has successfully been tested under Windows 2000. In business environments the stability and security tools of Windows 2000 are of course big plusses. SMP support for "Windows Millennium" isn't mentioned here, present in Windows 2000 so that could give some advantages for dual CPU users? Microsoft until a short while ago still had two different beta versions under development, 'Neptune' and 'Odyssey', as successors of what should have been one integrated operating system already for both consumers and business environments, what is now Windows 2000. I read they are now to be integrated under codename 'Whistler' but Neptune was not expected before 2002. That's just what I read here in this article. The experts here will probably have much more or different information. Eelco
