In answer to your questions/demands ;-) 1) Mattel Interactive (along with every other company that has been in charge of the Chessmaster series for many years) has decreed that there should be a new version once a year. Therefore the next version will almost certainly be out in September or October. 2) There will DEFINITELY be a new King engine, as Johan de Koning has signed a 5-year contract with Mattel Interactive. So CM8K will have The King 3.x. 3a) Very Doubtful. 3b) Doubtful, although I'll pass it along. 3c) I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for here. Please explain further.... 3d) Yes (finally!) 4) Auto232 is doubtful, although not completely ruled out. But the ability to have a computer personality play over a LAN connection is a possibility and could be done if there is enough time (always the big issue when dealing with such a short development cycle, which is usually only about 7 months from start until Beta). 5) Actually, Johan has stated that The King can handle hash table sizes up to 640MB(!), but development team rightly feels that that is overkill. Even Johan has said that, in most circumstances, anything more than 16MB is unnecessary. So the GUI will allow the user to set values up to 64MB (perhaps 128MB). Remember that the TYPICAL Chessmaster user could get himself into serious trouble by cranking the value all the way up on his mimimum spec machine. 6) [suggested by another post] -- The development team (along with Johan) are currently doing a "proof of concept" regarding Winboard support in CM8K. The way it would work is that you could bring any Winboard engine INTO CM8K, but The King engine would not work OUTSIDE of CM8K. That's the current plan, although it's still too early to tell.... jm
