Lots of speculating now on my part. Playing is a real strain. Karpov reportedly lost 20-30 pounds in his first match with Kasparov. Personally, I really wanted to see a match between a "mollycoddled" (to use Tim's language) GM and DJ. There has been a lot of talk about how well GMs would do if they prepared, if there were no noise, etc., etc....I am half-persuaded by those arguments but do not really know. I speculated that this was a chance to put all those remarks (I guessed that Xie Jun would be prepared) to the test and see who was right. Now it is clear this will not happen. The U.S. and The Soviet Union played a team radio match in the late 40s. So it can be done. I guess however, that the point here was to showcase the new "Internet paradigm" and therefore alternative move-passsing schemes will not do. Cheers anyway, Walter
