The 6502 is an 8 bit processor. It would really stink, I think. Never heard of an H7 or H8 processor. But many older chess programs were based on Motorola 68000 series. 68000 is 16 bit, and 68020 is 32 bit. You can't just go by clock speed. You also need to look at the instruction set and caches size and memory size and many other factors. I think some chess hardware used MIPS, but I am not sure about it.
