Just realized that SpecINT 2000 replaced the benchmark using Go with a benchmark using Crafty. Now, we have finally an official measure to compare systems running chess programs. For instance, the 733 MHz Dell 420 box cranks out 369 when running benchmark 186.crafty (http://www.spec.org/osg/cpu2000/results/res1999q4/cpu2000-19991130-00027.asc). Does somebody have the values for a system containing an Athlon 1GHz? Unfortunately, Intel does not split SpecINT 2000 into individual benchmarks. The overall SpecINT 2000 for the new PIII/1GHz is around 410 for a system with the 820 chipset and PC800 RDRAM. All those tests are made with Intel's C/C++ compiler that supports SIMD. Check http://www.spec.org/osg/cpu2000/press/faq.html for more info. Gregor
