I wonder if Motorola changed its mind or what. > >-Tom As I remember it, Motorola much *wanted* to do a 32-bit design, but in the 70s you just couldn't fit all of that on a single chip. So they did a basic design that looked good and later managed to do a full 32-bit implementation, the 68020. This is at a time when the 8086 was brand new, and even before the original IBM PC...
