It's *obviously* not Deep Junior's fault that the ISP is so crappy. The player insisting on a forfeit because of the ISP delay isn't a true chess player in my opinion. *Insisting* on winning in this way is totally unsports-person like. Morphy never acted like that, and I'm sure not even Bobby Fischer would insist on winning a game in this fashion. A true player wins by skill, not by forfeit. If I was playing the computer in a match, this is the way I would do it: 1) Put the computer and the player in the same room. 2) Have 3 time outs for both human and computer players. After that, then can have a reasonable delay (an hour sounds reasonable) THEN perhaps after that, a forfeit could be considered. 3) If it's done over the internet, then rule #2 clearly must be modified. Why not over the phone indeed? Sounds reasonable to me. This is very bad for computer chess :-( Mark
