Good questions.But I have thought for a long time now, that the deeper and more acurately a program sees, with better positional understanding, the more it will naturally detect all these things. Even its eventually coming out, if seen through calculation, then the program will not detect a winning attack by the opponent, if the trapped peice will be out in time, before suffering some damage. But it's still a complicated question as the side with a quite-long-term trapped peice will lose some of its evaluation due to less attacking possibilities and initiative of its own, even if on its eventual release, the position might be more attacking than that of its opponent. But that is like any long term vision difficulty. But the machine can still be doing very well indeed. S.Taylor
