I think those chess hardware producers are not exactly commercial geniouses as
they seemed to be, when there was no PC chess yet. But NOVAG published also an
important *software*, WChess 1.0x. I do not understand why they did not continue
it, and WChess 2000 came as engine for the MCS only (which is from Millennium
2000, not from NOVAG).
It's similar with the Tasc board, which Tasc says is "discontinued". The Tasc
R30 is still the strongest chess computer of it's kind I think; they would just
have to standardise the board connection for public usage, similar to the
WinBoard software GUI, and all the other companies could have produced different
"operator modules" for it. If processors >100 MHz would have been used, they'd
sell thousands and thousands of it... hard to understand why this doesn't
happen. Lack of fantasy maybe.
