The reason it is only getting 4-5 ply is not a bug, just the fact that I don't have a lot of stuff in the program yet, such as move ordering (okay, I do sort captures, but that is it). Obviously, the search tree is much larger than it really needs to be, and this is the reason for the very low depth. I'm planning on adding a hashtable soon which I hope will improve things. David
