This will delight a few friends of mine. Back when I was just starting the game,
they began touting the virtues of the Englund gambit (1.d4 e5), showing me all
sorts of lines and even showing a simul game played by Kortchnoi. I refused to
jump in the bandwagon because as far as I could see, its only purpose was to
spend the next 10 moves desperately trying to get back the pawn that had just
been sacrificed. Seems like they were right all along. Actually, this is very
good news as I can finally drop the whole stupid game and take up something
REALLY important. I let you know as soon as I figure out what that could be.
