The shortcoming in your arguement is that Kasparov _didn't_ win the title. The reason that Kasparov didn't earn anything is because he's no longer a part of the structure set up by FIDE for determining who the World Champion is. Kasparov is probably the strongest Chess player around (not my favorite though) but he holds no claim whatsoever to the Chess World Champion. Besides, the phoney title that he created, he doesn't defend it. We've all seen these matches for the title get set up and then scrapped before, let's not forget the Shirov match that never happened. I'll beleive the Kasparov-Anand match when it happens, this is no different than heavey weight boxing. Pete
