Probably no effect.

I doubt if the common  Chessplayer is aware of such free programs and their
strentgh.

I myself have heard only about Crafty before experimenting with winboard..

And even if they are aware the lack of user friendlyness and interface means
that they prefer  commericals ones anyway..

Computer Chess fans like those on this board, can handle winboard well enough
but most desire the hotest and newest program anyway so winboard programs is
unlikely to affect sales here.
