Comet and TCB too, not to mention the rather vast variety of other Winboard programs. But the comercial programs have allot to offer, I think it's a good idea to own at least one. With my now old Extreme program, I still use it's database abilities, just took advantage of them to create a pgn database when I needed to compile a new opening book for Tristram. I almost never play Chess against Extreme, but I still use it's database features. And if you don't have a talent for operating computers, then Winboard is really hard to figure out, and most of those comercial programs just work right out of the box (more or less). They definately have a place, I don't understand why you'd want to buy one more than every 5 years, but... Pete
