Subject: new computer athlon?

I'm looking for a new computer and would like to play chess on it.
I have seen that the Athlon chip is fast and seems less expensive and more
available than the chips from Intel.
Is there a problem with running chess on the Ahtlon?
Or, perhaps, is there a problem with running graphics on the Athlon?
