I think that the reason is that people usually think about IM as a Fide IM
and in most of the cases Fide IM's are better than postal IM's in over the board
games(I think that every player with 1800 rating and time and computer can be IM
in postal chess).

In this case I understand that it is not relevant because the IM plays probably
like an average Fide IM in 1/0 games so winning against him in 1/0 games is the
same as winning against Fide IM in 1/0 games.

I understand that the IM is not IM in over the board tournament games so winning
against him in 2 hours/40 moves is not the same as winning an average Fide IM in
2 hours/40 moves but this is not relevant because the games were not tournament
time control games.
