Normally when this kind of things happen, it's just a matter of a function
ending up in a different page, resulting in a page fault.
You can ignore it if you know for sure that the changes you made have, made the
program faster.

I wonder if this is the case here. I might be off, but I thought that asserts
were ignored in release builds, so removing them should not make any difference.
