I had this impression before, but by now I think the reason is as follows:

According to information given by ChessBase, and also by David Levy, the
president of the ICGA (former ICCA), Kasparov is planning to play a title (!)
match - a match for the World Chess Championship (FIDE not included here...)
against a computer in 2001. Levy says that "...Kasparov first wants to defend
his title against a human player" this year. Estimation for the possible price
funds is 10 million $.
