Both computers did the right thing. Getting rid of the astle leaves a simple win with Knight and Bishop. Once you understand the formula, you can force the win simply, every time. (It took an IM to show me the formula for the win though, and I couldn't believe how simple it was.) Leaving the Castle on the board by taking with the Bishop just makes the win more complicated. You can mate with two Knights only if the opponent self-mates or it's mate in one at the start. If the opponent has any pieces other than the King, it is possible in some cicumstances to force the win. Mate with one Knight and King against King is not possible under any circumstances unless you hit your opponent over the head with the Knight. Richard
