During a recent trip to Martinique, I had to use a Compaq machine equipped with
a 450MHz PentiumIII processor. I was very disappointed with it, as Chess Tiger
ran on it 10% slower that on my K6-2 400MHz. Why? I don't know. But that make a
big difference in cycle per instruction.

I had a K6-3 in the WCCC99 in Paderborn. For Tiger, it is as fast as the K6-2 at
the same clock speed.

A friend of mine has an Athlon 550MHz. We have done some tests. We have found
that, for Chess Tiger, the Athlon runs exactly at the same speed as the K6-2, if
the clock speed is the same. That is, Tiger runs at the same speed on a K6-2 450
and on an Athlon 450. But the Athlon supports much higher clock speeds, so the
Athlon of course definitely beats the K6-2.

So, for Chess Tiger, and for a given clock speed: K6-2 = K6-3 = Athlon, and
they are all superior to the PIII.

The bottom line is, of course, that the processor of choice for Tiger is the
Athlon, as it supports higher clock speeds than the K6-2 and K6-3.

I know this does not exactly answers your question, but I don't know how to
answer anyway. So I just give some informations I have.
