I have discovered a strange behaviour in Junior 6.0. When the program plays the following position wKh2,Qc2,Rg3,Pg2,h3/bKc5,Nc7,Bc4,e5,Rf1,Pf6,h5 FEN: 8/2n5/5p2/2k1b2p/2b5/6RP/2Q3PK/5r2 b - - 0 47 The program insist on playing 47 ...h4 (! by junior 6.0) Analysis by Junior 6.0 after 2 minutes infinite analysis: 1. -+ (-11.37): 47...h4 2. -+ (-4.99): 47...Nb5 3. -+ (-4.89): 47...Nd5 48.Qh7 h4 49.Qxh4 Ne3 4. -+ (-4.88): 47...Ra1 48.Qh7 Ra8 49.Qe7+ Kb5 50.Qh7 Rg8 51.Qxh5 Rxg3 52.Kg1 Bd5 53.Qe2+ Kb6 54.Qf2+ Kb7 Given the program 10 seconds pr. move, it plays 47... h4, and making it move again for white, it doesn't play the saving move 48. Qxc4, Kxc4 stalemate, but 48. Qc3 which of course loses. When the position is played to stalemate, using infinite analyses, and then taken back to blacks 47th move, it then avoids the stalemate with 47... Ra1, winning. --- When I registered the program (just bought it a couple of days ago), I downloaded and installed the Service Pack. In case there are different versions out there, I can not say which one I got. The file Junior6SP.exe I downloaded, is 6,134,808 bytes. So, do I need any other patches (if so where can I find them), or is there another way to fix this problem. (This problem is also posted in rec.games.chess.computers 04. April, 2000, thread: "Strange Junior 6.0 blunder") I much appreciate any help I can get on this matter. Svein A. Kjenner skjenner@online.no
