If FIDE has made a decision one way or the other, it might not be a good idea to make the other decision for a national championship, though. 2) Fritz using SSS* would explain its well-known memory requirements. I had a feeling he was doing something non-traditional to suck up so much memory. 3) Fritz using SSS* would also explain why Frans experimented with mtd() methods, since one particular mtd() method has been proven to search the same nodes in the same order as SSS*.
