Is the increase in prize money due to the participation of Fritz?

I agree that computers shouldn't be allowed to participate in the Dutch chess
championship. I think it's a simple cognitive choice. Fritz isn't a chess player
but a chess program and therefore not eligible to play. Punishing Van der
Sterren is dubious at best. Isn't there a chess federation to complain to.

I have a simple question. Fritz and other programs are obviously capable of
working with different hardware. Why should it be possible for computer programs
to upgrade in hardware? If indeed chess programs are getting better at playing
chess, why not freeze the allowed hardware, i.e. at one processor with a clock
frequence of around 800MHz (or 1GHz). Human chess players don't replace their
brain every month as far as I know.

The differences are so immense that a computer shouldn't be able to compete in
any championship tournaments, unless someone sits down and make a rule book for
computer participation. Tournaments like Linares and Wijk An Zee can do what
they want as long as all the competing players agree.

Best wishes...
Mogens
