I wanted it to be as platform and browser independent as possible so I avoided using any Java, Javascript, and the like. I started with a freely available message board system but I've highly modified it. The original had no archiving or offline reading, no security, no message filter, etc. The likely solution will be to have the server automatically create an HTML index for the files in the daily zip's.
