I am >curious what others think of this! > >Regards, Jeroen My $AU0.02, While I like to see computers playing in Chess Tournaments, I do not think a computer should play in a "closed" tournament such as a National Championship. Surely there is some qualifying criteria for this event, & presumably Fritz has been given a "wild-card" for "publicity" or the like. What of the poor Human who qualified 12th for this event? The computer most definitely (IMO) should not be awarded the title "National Champion" if it wins. That one player refuses to play & is forfeit a point is not right in a National Championship. A time & a place for everything, but IMO not a National Championship. On the other hand: I'd like to see a few computers at the next FIDE World-championship Knockout. Ahh well, Technology these days.
