just thought you might like to see some numbers on my new system with deep
junior. my new system is dual 750 pentiums with 384 megs of ram, running on
windows NT service pack 5. it is the 100 fsb chips. deep recommends 256
megs hash as a maximum setting. of course I use a lot less on shorter games.
deep is drawing a lot of games. on long time settings it has not lost yet.
but i have lost several games at 10/0. in 3/0 games i have found another
program that is much stronger for me for now. my 3/0 program with the settings
i use has not lost on points yet, only time. but with my 3/0 program, it only
runs on one processor, and is not hitting near the kns as deep. right now i am
just using the default settings.
ok here are some numbers:
with my old 550 pentium lll: fritz 6a 515 kns
with my new dual 750 : fritz 6a 64 megs hash 717 kns
fritz 6a 184 megs hash 690 kns
deep junior 32 megs hash 1140 kns
deep junior 64 megs hash 1120 kns
deep junior 255 megs hash 1040 kns
with windows NT, inside the task manager, there is a performance
monitor. i can pull this up, and let it monitor the processors during the game
and it shows the 6a only running one proceesor like it should, and when running
deep, both processors stay at almost 100% most of the time. i use the alt-tab
keys when playing at ICC or at yahoo advance chess. after playing about 15 to 20
min., the graphics start crashing from the alt-tab keys. so I guess i will be
sending my system back to dell. also i keep getting a DR. Watson error,
saying internet explorer has a conflict, and it shuts me down back to the
desktop. you know what they say, mo money----mo problems. maybe i should go
back to racing, but this is still fun. you see that 1140 kns, there are
several guys at yahoo chess that can beat this software, not every game, but
they can beat my hardware with deep junior sometime. one guy at yahoo advanced
chess says he is a programmer and is beating my 1500 mhz deep junior with fritz
and a 400 mhz system. i did not think that was possible. but he says he
has modified his software. oh well, i am still learning and you guys have
been doing this for decades. but i will still race my late model stock car at
nashville motor speedway, and when i want to relax i start my dual 750s and
go race at ICC or yahoo.
i hope you dont find this to boring.
if you have any suggestions please let me know, i have a few days before i
will send this workstation back.
thanks,
xracer ICC
