By writing "3 times champion" he suggests that vd Sterren is the potential winner. He could also have written " the person that finished 8th last year and 10th the year before (out of 12 ) " The part of the sentence "but not in the national championship" was not in the other interview ( of 1980), neither was "on principle". Part of this interview was handed out at the pressconference. Ligterink choose not to use it in his article. >"That's were Dutch people should play for the Dutch title". Yes, and that would make a bad impression. But I think it's getting a little bit blown out of proportion. I mean, we are talking about the last year nr 7,8 and a not qualifier. How much more points would they get if they played ? It IS a shame if they refuse to play, but does it make that much difference ? >Aside from that Gert writes that Jeroen Piket, who takes a more or less neutral >stand about Fritz as a participant, already finds Fritz the favourite to win. Smart move by Jeroen. I guess that raises the big question. Is the problem the participation of Fritz, or the possible winning by Fritz ? >With inviting a computer organizers the KNSB wanted to generate more publicity >(last year it was Dutch woman champion Zhaoqin Peng invited with a 'wild card' Yes, you're correct, it was Peng, not Polgar.
