Subject: The Chess Computers I Have Known

The other day I was trying to remember all the dedicated chess computers I have
owned since my first Chess Challenger 7 in 1978. I think it goes something like
this in rough chronological order.

Some of the names escape me…

Chess Challenger 7
Boris/Sargon 2.5
Morphy Module (wasn’t there an opening and endgame module too?)
Prodigy
Scisys Mark V
Philidor Module??
Scisys Executive
Some LCD piece of crap from Mattell (circa early 80s)
2 or 3 radio shack units (early 80s)
Sensory Challenger 8
Sensory Challenger 9
Sensory Elite??
Novag Constellation
Super Constellation
Sapphire II
Karpov Grandmaster
Jasper
Travel Champion 2100
GK2100
Opal Plus
Avalon

I’m sure there’s another 3 or 4 I can’t remember.

Not to mention a dozen or more pieces of software.

Wow!…I’m one sick puppy!

Of all these units the one that stands out the most in my mind, even after close
to twenty years is the Scisys Mark V. What a unique unit. I remember traveling
to the Your Move old location to pick it up.

I’d like to hear from some of you old timers out there. Take a trip down
computer chess memory lane with me and let me know what you remember most about
those exciting years from the late 70s to the mid 80s.

Steve…any interesting war stories from those days?

David
