I really would be _very_ surprised if the Chessbase guys are able to earn _any_ money with this idea of selling those engines for 129.-DM . Where is the market ?? People want to have those great new engines ? Hmm ; this won't work : with the exception of Patzer and Ikarus they are all already availlable as winboard engines ( and most of them work under Chessbase GUI very well using the adapter anyway ) ; and with about 40 of them around who needs another one ? _Maybe_ this could work if one of them could be expected to rule SSDF :-) ... That the winboard versions might be a little slower or older or buggier under Chessbase GUI doesn't matter here as as you yourself pointed out often enough this is not the major reason for the interest in those programs . _Your_ page seems to be one of the major reasons why this CD won't sell btw , Frank , as you explain things ( setting up winboard progs under Chessbase GUI ) way too good :-) How _can_ this work if everyone can for example buy one of Fritz , Junior, Hiarcs or Nimzo ( and even cheaper !!! ) , download Crafty17.07 for free as native on Chessbase site , download Comet native , download Exchess native ; get Doctor and a few others on the CD ?? This CD can only be sold to _absolute_ chessprogram addicts I think , to the ones who simply have to have _everything_ . It is a major success for your public relationship work , Frank, that Chessbase even considered this I think but it seems the Chessbase GUIs somehow must have lost their relationship to reality , or maybe they have very low costs in production that they can afford to offer a program CD they probably can sell only about 200-500 times ... But it will be fun to wait and see what happens here : _if_ it works it would be another example of how wrong one of my judgements can be :-)) pete
