You'd have a ready made but limited market.  Ferret is a bit famous in some
circles, but virtually unknown in most other circles.

I don't mind it not being available, I'd like to have a copy of Ferret, but I'm
not the least bit concerned that I can't have one.  It would cost you literally
thousands of hours of support if you released it (only guessing) no matter how
you decided to do it.  Why not wait till the year 2005 and release it as an
unsupported Winboard engine?
