Subject: Crafty CB vs Crafty WB: apparently no difference...

Author: Francesco Di Tolla

I have made a little test playing a 20 games match between Crafty 17.07 (hash 44
MB)in CB and Crafty in WinBoard (hash 48 MB). This was done to try to address
any difference between the version of crafty used in the SSDF list and the wb
one.

The programs were both running on the same machine (a celeron 400 with 256 MB of
ram) connected to the two serial ports shortcutted by a serial cable, and the
wb program was interfaced to the Autoplayer with a dedicated interface by Remi
Coulomb. Programs were running with ponder off (sorry Bob) and 30 min/game
timing. The book used were Junior's 5 book for the first, and book from 75.000
GM (ELO>2500) games.

The result was a simple 10-10. This is not the final proof that there is
absolutely no difference but in any case the difference should not be very big,
(unless one uses a multi CPU machine, but also Fritz and Junior could do that).

Franz
