How many of the millions of the ChessMaster owners know anything about the engine it runs? They jsut know it can play several personalities. Here's the same, or a similar concept. Then consider that many people will bethinking to buy fritz plus this 7 ... do they know fritz is an engine and not the program? >Why should someone buy one of those 7 rather unknown progs if he doesn't >already own one ? The average chess player probably dosen't know any engine. All the club player I know either have a copy of Fritz or ChessMaster (or some ugly cheap software). >Or maybe even "Crafty , the secret Internet chess world master , >which his author offers for free because he is some nuts scientist " ?? This because as I said some people do not like to have to edit init files. If they have Fritz they can use the free CB native version, but this is not our strting condition. >If it is about Fritz : it doesn't come with _old_ engines it seems : for >example it comes with Doctor 3.0 , a very neat program . I have made several times mistakes in configuring them and I have had to fix my settings to have them work due to wrong documentation or the like, I'm sure many people give up much earlier. Software that automagically installs is a feature people like a lot. regards Franz
