A bidding war could be fun. I believe Keene is Only in this whole BGWC cycle as a businessman. What's he good and unique at - organising top level chess tournaments. What's he get out of it - pleasure, prestige & money. Why should Chessbase & Junior win a bidding war if "poor" Tigger or Hiarcs is the better contender. For credibility sake there should be a contendors tournament. > >Best wishes... >Mogens I thought that a big well-publisized tournament to decide the challenger, maybe with a preliminary "open" Swiss with 100 or more entrants, would be good for all computer chess, and particularly for the winner. If the winner then went on to actually defeat the BGWC with a PC, then that would be the greatest achievement ever in Computer Chess. Philosophically, (sp??) my first impression was I'd like to see Crafty win the right of challenge & then do well in a match against the BGWC. Because Crafty is Free to all people. And: What difference would winning the right of challenge make to the life of the Authors of Tigger, Rebel, Hiarcs, Lambchop!! (there's a statistical chance) Shredder....... I really think that this is The chance to create the biggest event for PC based Computer Chess Ever. But, on counting the replies to my post after 24 hours, probably I'm being too fanciful. Bugger it, I'll ring Ray Keene myself, get me a piece of this action. Thanks Mogens, at least you had thoughts on the subject. dissillusioned, Tina Long
