I wouldn't personally describe Crafty as "second rate".

However, whether or not you agree with that sentiment really doesn't affect the
substance of my argument which is that, because Crafty is architected to run on
multiple processors, and because it is well known that having extra computer
power leads to a higher rating, it is a reasonable conjecture that if Crafty
were run on a fast, multi-processor PC, it might well be as strong as the best
human players.
