Hi Gerry,
I agree with Harl Meyers that Tasc Chess Tutor and Chess Mentor are very
good. I also enjoy stepping through GM games using ChessGenius as a
reader for the PGN or CB format gamefiles. Genius has a Windows
interface which I find easy to use for this purpose. Korner loves
Fritz5. Actually, I think he's found a way to get it to cook his
breakfast. I liked Fritz4 for moving through GM games but it did not
have the ability to name the openings. Perhaps Fritz does that now.
Anyway, Rebel and Genius provide good evals along the way as I look at
GM games, and I find that useful and fun. But the best teaching programs
are ChessMentor and Tasc Chess Tutor, with Mentor getting the nod in my
book by a head and shoulder. Good luck.
Robert
