Exactly why should it be a very easy task to beat a FIDE 2500 GM? Former World Champion? This seems a bit disrespectful to me - seeing a draw to Smyslov as some kind of failure. Firstly a 2500 *is* a strong player. Computers aren't anywehere *near* the point where they can discount a 2500 GM yet. And Smyslov himself is a particularly good positional player. His style is a perfect match for a program such as Rebel. Secondly, this man has 50 years of top-level chess experience. Rating isn't everything. His experience and judgement have been honed over a caree that has spanned decades. That too is something that shouldn't be discounted. In short, it *is* a difficult task to beat somebody like Smyslov. If it wasn't a true test, then Ed probably wouldn't have wanted to play it, no?
