I have a couple:
1. The first root move is significantly better than all the rest of the
moves, and it is a recapture. It has to remain better for _every_
iteration, and the score can't fail low at any iteration. If this is met,
I quit after 1/3 of the normal search time.
2. I find a mate and one of the two conditions is met:
(a) the current mate (N moves) can't be improved on. This is determined by
noticing that I have searched to 2*N-1 plies deep (iteration number).
(b) the current mate in N is at _least_ one move shorter than the mate score
played the last time crafty made a real move.
(c) the position is a tablebase position at the root.
In the above I quit after 4 plies (4 to give me something to ponder).
