Fritz 5.0 on two different computers with Win95 and Win 3.11 will save "$19" "$5" and other such things in its ASCII, instead of +- or ! or other punctuation in its annotation. I tried loading them with Wordpad, but they are not Word codes, as I had guessed. KK says he doesn't find them in his PGN files, so I am posting to find if anyone else does, or if anyone can tell me how to have it store the right punctuation. Genius won't load these annotated PGNs. What am I doing wrong? I create a new database: Annotate.pgn. I then copy the annotated game to this new database. I look at the resulting pgn file with Notepad. No punctuation, except opening and closing brackets and parentheses, and a bunch of "$n" stuff where +- += etc. used to be. Are these legitimate PGN that should be turned into the appropriate punctuation by the loading program? I don't know how to represent a + over an = in ASCII, otherwise. Thanks, kp
