Yes, I like M-Chess too (of which a have the 7.01 version), although I didn't
use it much. I think it was among the first programs to be sold with tablebases.
To use those, M-Chess allows to configure more than one directory, and you can
choose between static and dynamic access each (? or for the 2nd only; I'm not
sure at the moment).

This ist an important option which I would like to see in every program, because
it allows to give dynamic access to 3- and 4-piece EGTB's, while 5- or even
6-piece EGTB's would only be used when the database position is already on the
board (or let the KRP-KR database use always too, for example). This may be a
good compromise; I'm still in doubt if the performance loss for the search (when
dynamic access is done) for those lines, where the database material is *not*
reached, isn't a too big disadvantage, at least sometimes. I don't know
statistics about, if the success is increased in general and how much, with
tablebases - but I wouldn't be suprised if this was the case with 4-piece
EGTB's, but not significantly with the 5-piece EGTB's because of negative
effects. Anyway, M-Chess has those very useful options for individual
configuration of the EGTB access and is a great chess program!

P.S.
Afaik, Marty Hirsch is, or was, busy with the "World Chess Network" online chess
server, which has a nice windows interface.
