I think it is based on two facts:  (1) crafty is incredibly strong on the quad
xeon;  (2) GM players like to be 'noticed' and they know when the message ROBO
admin says "GM XXXX  is playing Crafty, type 'follow XXXX' to watch..."

The GM knows he will have 30-40-50 people watching the games, and that if he
can beat it, it gives his reputation a lift, perhaps increasing his chances of
giving online lessons...

But in any case, many are 'hooked' which is fine by me...  :)
