If I remember from prior discussions, crafty really doesn't 'control' the book under the fritz interface. Someone had reported that the fritz gui choosees the book lines and only gives control to the 'engine' once it is out of book... The default 'learning' weight for crafty is set to not overly influence the games, which might be bad for SSDF testing. IE it is easily possible to add a couple of commands and have it always repeat won games, and never repeat lost games... but I don't make that the default...
