Who claims that Crafty is more susceptible to strength depletion by using ponder
off? There's only one point to be made:

If the strength of any chess program is to be measured fairly then make sure
that setup is as optional as possible for both. This would include the option
ponder on. If not, the results only serve as guidelines.
