This is exactly what I do.

But I get the idea that if I do this, someone is going to bark at me
because my program says it has 55 minutes left, rather than 60 minutes,
and force me to change it to 60 minutes.

Maybe I can argue that since I only gave it 55 minutes, that a displayed
time of 55 minutes indicates zero minutes elapsed, which is accurate.

Of course, when it is move 40, perhaps 57 minutes will have elapsed, and
since I started with 55, maybe I should have to change the time to -2
minutes.

See why this is a problem?

And then there is the requirement, apparently, that I must display my
clock, which updates the screen every second. Maybe this seems like
nothing, but I have never done any tests to see how efficent that screen
update is, perhaps it is awful. I shouldn't *have* to research this
now, my flight is in like ten days, and this rule isn't even finalized,
perhaps it will change more.
